Arvid Anderson works from his studio on Fox Island in the scenic Gig Harbor area of Puget Sound.  Arvid works in multi media, including sculpture and monotypes.  He considers himself an experimentalist and uses various methods and materials in his monotypes to create each unique image.  He favors strong colors and landscapes influenced by the marine atmosphere of Western Washington and the dry scapes of Eastern Washington.  His wooden masks and sculptures incorporate natural materials with themes indigenous to the Northwest. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Puget Sound and a Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University.  After a 35 year career as a trial attorney and senior partner in a local law firm he retired to pursue his career as an artist. Arvid has won numerous awards for his sculpture and unique monotypes.  He is active in the Peninsula Art League.  He is a member of the Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour group of commercial artists and the Seattle Print Arts association.  Arvid currently shows his work at Gallery Row in Gig Harbor. Also, look for his work at Poulsbo's newest fine at gallery, Bluewater Artworks, opening soon.

Artist's statement:  My objective is to concentrate on design and balance enhanced by color.

CURRENT EVENTS:

Pacific Lutheran University's National Print Exhibition, "The Human Experience," will open February 8, 2012 and run to March 7, 2012 at the University Gallery in Ingram Hall.  Arvid's monotype, "Witnesses," (see Arvid's Gallery) has been selected for this juried show.

MONOTYPE:
A monotype is an unique original work of art created through a combination of painting and printing techniques.  The one-of-a-kind image is developed on an unaltered flat plate using oil or water based media and transferred by hand or by a press onto another surface, usually paper.  The single image produced is the monotype and is sometimes referred to as a monoprint.

                        GYOTAKU
Gyo (fish) taku (print) is Japanese for fish print.  The actual fish is inked and printed on paper or cloth.  This is a beautiful way to record and preserve the fisherman's catch.
